LinkedIn Events

LinkedIn Events is a feature for promoting and organizing the lead-up to a webinar, launch, or virtual meetup. It handles invitations and pre-event visibility, not the actual hosting.

What it actually is

LinkedIn Events is a page you create to promote something happening in the future: a webinar, a product launch, a panel. People can see who's invited, who's going, and who else from their network is attending. It's built for the lead-up. When the actual event happens, you typically send attendees off to Zoom or another platform to watch it, unless you're running it as a LinkedIn Live stream, which is a separate feature entirely.

That distinction trips people up constantly. LinkedIn Live is the broadcast tool. LinkedIn Events is the invitation and RSVP layer. You can combine them, running a Live session inside an Events page, but they solve different problems and get confused in planning meetings all the time.

Why it matters for B2B sellers

Events pages give you a public list of who registered, and that list is genuinely useful. It's a warm audience you can follow up with individually, tag in posts, or hand to sales as a target list. For anyone doing named-account work, an Events page tied to a topic your buying committee cares about is a legitimate way to surface who's paying attention before you ever pick up the phone.

The misconception

The number on the Events page is registrations, not attendance, and definitely not pipeline. Teams love screenshotting "600 people registered" as if that's a result. Most webinar registrants never show up. Of the ones who do, most aren't in a buying window. Treating the registration count as a success metric is how marketing teams convince themselves an event worked when nothing downstream actually moved.

How it should be measured

The number that matters is what happens after: how many registrants match your target account list, how many attended live, how many took a follow-up meeting, and whether any of that shows up in pipeline weeks later. Registrations are a top-of-funnel vanity number unless someone on the sales side actually works the list. If nobody's doing outbound follow-up against the registrant list, the Events page was just an RSVP form with good production value.
